Co-founder and Vice President of Dealware Field Hockey Association, a non-profit that aims to unify and promote the growth of field hockey in Delaware.
Brand
The Delaware Field Hockey Association (DFHA) brand is inspired by the Delaware River, Bay, and the Atlantic Ocean that flank all state sides. These waterways are the flowing unifiers that bridge all three counties, New Castle, Kent, and Sussex, in Delaware and tie it to the eastern shore and coastline. Delaware Field Hockey Association aspires to bridge the sport of field hockey, mixing all areas as these bodies of water do. Hence, the “Delaware Wave” iconography was born. The “Delaware Wave” mark cradles a ball and blends into the shape of a field hockey stick, holding up the word “Delaware” and below the stick the words “field hockey association.” The wave also intends to capture the ferocity of water and our clubs’ strength and talent.

Delaware “D”
The “Delaware Inner Circle” mark showcases the “Delaware ‘D'” to commemorate the state of Delaware, which takes its name from the river and bay named after the governor of Virginia, Thomas West, Lord De La Warr, by explorer Samuel Argall in 1610. The inside of the letter “D” takes the shape of Delaware’s eastern coastline, with a field hockey stick placed on the straightened westernmost side of the state, backing it like a spine as DFHA aims to do for field hockey across the state.
Colors
We chose orange, synonymous with a game-day field hockey ball, and blue, which represents the Delaware waterways that inspired the wave logo part of the brand’s DNA.
Project Details
During the height of the pandemic, my husband and I desperately missed playing field hockey together. Hockey opportunities for adults, especially co-ed ones, were dwindling, so we decided to put our passion for the sport into action. We founded the Delaware Field Hockey Association (DFHA), an all-volunteer, non-profit association, to unify the hockey community and expand opportunities to play across the state.

Motion Graphics
In the coming years, we hope to give DFHA more of a video presence across our channels. This is the beginning of that branding, tethering the Delaware inner circle to the Delaware Wave with a simple outro motion graphic.
