Swede Dish
Creator of a long-time cookbook still under development. Future content will be married to create a food and lifestyle blog. This project is a big dill!
Brand
My Swedish heritage, meals, and traditions shared with my Grandmother Iva inspired my new Swedish American cuisine. The brand’s logo is centered around, you guessed it, a dish showcasing a glacier and its reflection, with a fish below the surface to call out the animals and foods of Nordic origin just like my own. All are neatly enclosed in a circle representing the Arctic Circle, Nordic regions, and life there. The space between represents the Atlantic Ocean that bridges the two countries, Sweden and the mid-Atlantic of America where I live, with rich waterways, marshy areas, and cooler climates bearing a slight resemblance to Sweden and making similar Americanized local ingredients possible.
I use Swedish-inspired ingredients and apply healthy American twists, melding my cultural roots to the rich American tapestry, like the diverse spice trade that influenced the Swedish culture’s flavor palette during the Viking days. Bonus: the Scandinavian Diet is exceptionally healthy, like the more famous Mediterranean diet. My recipes capture my influences and draw inspiration from meals shared with family and friends across many cultures. I hope you’ll enjoy my Swede “ish” recipes, stories, and adapted traditions as much as I do!
Color
The deep yellow inspires warmth and happiness. It is bright like the lemon citrus prominently used across Sweden, along with many other acids like orange and vinegar that give Swedish food a pop.
The second primary color is a rich, saturated blue like a wild blueberry, which, when combined with the yellow it mirrors the colors of the Swedish Flag. I use these primary colors with accents like dill green and cloudberry orange.
