Living The Swede Life
Swede Dish stirs together Swedish-American comfort food and healthy, modern twists. What started as a cookbook dream now simmers into a full-on blog and lifestyle brand — it’s kind of a big dill!
Brand Story
Inspired by cherished meals shared with my Swedish grandmother, Iva, Swede Dish celebrates heritage through food. The brand combines Nordic ingredients with healthy, Americanized recipes to reflect my life in the Mid-Atlantic—a region whose marshes and waterways mirror parts of Sweden’s landscape.
The Swede Dish logo features a buttery blonde mermaid perched on a rock, gazing out across the water. In this logo, she faces outwards across the Atlantic, longingly gazing towards Sweden and Scandinavia, a homage to the iconic statue in Copenhagen inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid, and bonus, my favorite Disney movie as a child. This figure embodies both myth and memory, evoking the spirit of longing, transformation, and connection between sea and land, and in my case, between my home in Delaware and my aspiration to visit Sweden and the Nordic countries.
In my Swede Dish world, the mermaid becomes a symbol of heritage and creativity, a gentle nod to Nordic folklore, the maritime history of Swedish settlement along the Delaware River, and feminine wisdom passed down through generations.
This is my take on Swedish-American cuisine: adaptable, vibrant, and personal.
Swede “ish”
My goal is to modernize nostalgic recipes, keeping their cultural essence while enhancing flavor, accessibility, and nutrition. Think: pickled herring reimagined, lingonberries with roasted squash, or a spiced cardamom cake with oat flour.
Swede Dish isn’t just about food—it’s about memory, adaptation, and bringing joy to the table.
